Dubai: A Malayalam television channel, based in Dubai and called Channel D, is in deep crisis because its owner fled the United Arab Emirates and left employees hanging without paying.
The losses increased and the owner could not keep the channel in order.
A senior employee on Channel D told the Gulf News on Monday: "They did not pay us for months, but in the hope of a change, the dozen strange employees continued to move forward." No one expected the end to come so soon. .
Although the channel is in the air, his station office remained closed.
"They are playing reruns of old shows. But even that is likely to stop when his contract with Etisalat expires this end of the month, "he said.
Some employees were assured that their fees will be settled.
The biometric access control was deactivated in March, while the telephone lines were disconnected in April.
The channel also had a unit in Kochi, Kerala, but that has also been closed.
