The biometric industry is wide, with plenty of space for specialized players that focus on specific areas such as facial recognition to unlock smartphones or headphones with fitness tracking. But there are some important actors who have over the years become successful solution providers in a wide range of solutions and applications, and ZKTeco It has been a constant leader among these: the company's solutions cover access control, video surveillance, point of sale solutions, smart locks and more.

Peter O & # 39; Neill, president of FindBiometrics: Has it been a good year for ZKTeco? What are some of the highlights?
Raymond So, Chief Marketing Officer, General Manager, ZKTeco H.K .: In mid-2018, ZKTeco launched face recognition technology with visible light, which will be the most important highlight in the next two years, as the technology combines artificial intelligence and deep learning technology to take the user experience to a level brand new. In addition, technology is an advance in the ability of the facial template, expanding the application scenario to different industries, especially for multinational companies and large companies.
FB: ZK is a very global player. Where are you seeing the biggest growth?
ZKTeco: 2019 will be a challenging year for everyone, since everyone is full of uncertainties in political and economic aspects. The conflicts between the east and the west should remain in the foreseeable future, and the conflicts may generate some dispute of involvement in different areas, so we would prefer to remain conservative in 2019. If I should answer this question, I would say: Southeast Asia possibly Take some economic growth in the next few years, as they can take away the role of the manufacturing center in China.
FB: Can you check your product line for our readers?
ZKTeco: As one of the biometric technology providers, ZKTeco aims to apply biometric technologies in various products and applications. We are currently focusing on providing security and time and assistance solutions with the following nine product lines:
- Access control
- Time and assistance
- Video surveillance
- Input control
- Security inspection
- Parking lot
- Smart lock
- Biometric module
In addition to these nine product lines, ZKTeco is also trying to extend biometric technologies to other applications through third-party cooperation. Therefore, at the end of 2018, ZKTeco internally launched an artificial intelligence product line, which offers SDK, EDK and API to external partners for software and hardware integrations.
In addition to hardware development, ZKTeco is also making efforts to develop software to improve the user experience and expand the application. In terms of our entrenched business, time and assistance, ZKTeco launched its professional BioTime time and assistance software at the end of 2016, which has become one of the most powerful and multifunctional time and assistance programs on the market, and has won a A lot of positive comments from end users, a number of multinational companies are using this software.
FB: In terms of vertical focus on the market, where do you focus now? Is medical care, for example, on your radar?
ZKTeco: In terms of vertical markets, ZKTeco now aims to become a smart city instrument supplier, as we are currently doing well in the time and assistance and access control industries and is famous for providing biometric solutions. Certainly, these are the key elements of the smart city contribution. With the technological trend, the public is getting used to biometric technologies, we believe we have a very clear advantage and we have the courage to take advantage of this opportunity.
FB: The biometric industry is expanding very quickly today. What are some of the challenges we face as an industry?
ZKTeco: While we are in a free market, there will always be challenges. In my personal perspective, the challenges are in following the areas:
1. Policy risks:
Privacy is always the biggest challenge of biometric solutions, as civilians we fully understand the reasons why the public criticizes biometric technology against personal privacy. As a biometric provider, we are also doing everything possible to avoid any intrusive action against the privacy of any person. However, it is sometimes very difficult to gain the trust of end users, especially within conservative organizations. In our survey, more than 50 percent of end users still prefer RFID card solutions simply to avoid offending their countries 'privacy laws, since some of the countries' privacy laws have been maintained since the last century. , which certainly do not keep up with current technology trends and are preventing end users from using a better solution.
As we all know, biometrics is becoming one of the brightest stars in the technology industry, a large number of great players have shown their interest in joining this market, which is taking the competition to a new level. Imagine that, in the past, the most important player in the biometric industry only earned between 500 and 600 million per year, and now we must face multimillion-dollar corporate intrusions. Of course, on the positive side, we expect these great players to help expand the market, meanwhile, we also have to be very careful not to be expelled by these large corporations.
As I mentioned earlier, we are quite pessimistic about the economy in 2019 and 2020, we fear that the conservative atmosphere in the west will end in an upcoming economic crisis.
FB: What are the main drivers of our industry today … security, convenience, privacy …?
ZKTeco: From my point of view, in the last 5 years, smartphones and mobile devices are the main drivers of the biometric industry. From today's point of view, that is an incredible marketing campaign to promote biometric technology. Frankly speaking, the public maintains a very different perception of biometric technology recently, since they find it less offensive and intrusive, so we would see that the next step should be the application of smart city, improving efficiency for cities by applying of biometric technology to improve accuracy and quality information
FB: What can we expect to see after ZK?
ZKTeco: From the past to the future, ZKTeco always focuses on biometric technology, with the aim of implementing biometric technologies in different solutions. In the future, ZKTeco will leave our comfort zone and try to extend our influence to the smart city and smart retail solutions.
In 2019, ZKTeco will increase our global footprint; We will open a new manufacturing base in Atlantic City in the USA. UU. and a new software R&D center in India to provide more localized and faster response services.
